What is CBD ?
Extracted from the hemp plant, cannabidiol or CBD – whose molecular composition is close to that of THC – is part of the cannabinoids, one of the active substances in cannabis. CBD oil extraction methods
The extraction method chosen by the producer determines the purity of the CBD, i.e. the concentration level of the molecule in the finished product, once all the cannabinoids have been isolated from the plant. This is an essential factor that guarantees the quality level of CBD oil.
Used by most producers because it is inexpensive, solvent extraction (ethanol, butane) has the disadvantage of leaving some traces and residues of dangerous solvents in the finished product.
While more expensive as it requires sophisticated equipment, CO2 extraction ensures the highest level of quality. The carbon dioxide extraction system will precisely control the temperature and pressure needed to release and isolate the cannabinoids. This process increases the concentration of the CBD molecule in the oils.
Less commonly used, extraction by oils (vegetable, mineral or animal) avoids the use of chemicals.
However, it has the disadvantage of having a shorter shelf life than other processes.
